Are Wet Umbrella Dryers Truly Sustainable or Eco Friendly?

Wet Umbrellas exclusive Made in Australia Umbrella Dryers are the only truly sustainable Wet Umbrella Dryer on the Australian market. This sustainability has been the focus of our design from day one. Focusing on sustainability is through the whole life cycle of our products, from manufacturing to distribution then upcycling and recycling. We are the only umbrella dryer manufacturer in the world to offer a closed loop sustainable system. In this blog Wet Umbrella will go into the detail of our sustainability efforts in comparison to our competition.

Our Carbon Footprint.

Manufacturing in the destination country has by far the lowest carbon footprint for transport, with some green power. This combined with the local supply of materials will achieve the lowset footprint possible. Australia has the best aluminium smelters in the world and sourcing this in Australia eliminates sea freight from our products. Flat packing eliminates wasted space when shipping too. Lowering shipping cost and giving the highset efficiency for transport. Our box size is for the WUDA-500 are 800mm x 650mm x 120mm at 5.5kg and 620mm x 380mm x 120mm at 2.5kg.

Competitions Footprint.

Manufactured in China or other country with coal fire power stations. Assembled in the finished product size and packed into huge boxes. These huge boxes now need to be shipped by Sea Cargo to the distributor in the destination country. Once in the destination country these huge boxes may need to be loaded on pallets to ship. These boxes can be 1800mm x 900mm x 450mm and weigh 25-30kg. We had these shipping issues with the South Korean Models.

Recyclability of Our Wet Umbrella Dryers

Metal Recycling

Aluminium is readily available and easy to recycle in Australia. Wet Umbrella uses Shape Aluminium in Currumbin for our supplies, they are only 10km for our factory. Our Aluminium recycler is Action Metal Recyclers and are 2.5km away. When recycling metals there needs to be a focus on sorting of the given material so that the metal has correct recycling process. Using local suppliers cuts down on our Carbon Footprint too.

Microfiber Pads Recycling

Microfiber Pads are also fully recyclable. This is due to the manufacturing techniques used with our Microfiber pads and ensuring that Only polyester is used, this is easily recycled at TRAKS Textiles Recycling.

Recyclability of Competition Wet Umbrella Dryers.

Metal Recycling

A lot of Wet Umbrella Dryers on the market are welded together with different types of materials on the base and sides. This makes it impossible to recycle at end of life as the top is Mild Steel and the base is Stainless. There is no identification on the machines to enable recycling.

Microfiber Pads Recycling

These are not recyclable as there is no material identification on the pads. There is backing and bias of unknow material that will make sorting at recycling impossible. Also, some of the pads use magnets stitched inside the pad. The recycler will not remove these and will just send these pads to landfill if they encounter this product.

These can only be guaranteed in your local country like Australia. We have excellent workers’ rights, and all staff are cover with workers compensation if the anything happens. This give the client piece of mind they are not supporting unethical behaviour or slave labour when purchasing our products.
